For some reason, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs came to mind when I listened to this, particularly not to fear death or poverty. Would there be any correlation? He suggested that lower-level needs must generally be satisfied before higher-level needs become motivating factors. Later, he included cognitive (knowledge, curiosity) and aesthetic (beauty, balance) needs, and some versions add transcendence (helping others achieve self-actualization) above self-actualization. May fortune be with you on your new endeavor.

Thanks Jon! Yes, I think there is a correlation with Maslow. He wrote about fear as well - fear of growth and fear of safety. Seneca's point probably connects with a fear of safety hindering one's growth (what he called freedom here). Maslow believed that growth requires a conscious effort to overcome fear and choose growth over safety. Thanks for bringing Maslow into the discussion!

Wonderful reflection that really helps to put these tenets into practice.
