Dear Fellow Traveler,

We often discuss things like attention and being deliberate in daily life. But we shouldn’t mistake this for a rigid way of life. Flexibility is a critical skill of well-being and the art of living.

According to Steven C. Hayes (author of A Liberated Mind), psychological rigidity predicts anxiety, depression, substance abuse, trauma, eating disorders, and almost every other psychological and behavioral problem.

Seeking wisdom is not striving, clinging, or grasping for wisdom.

The Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu remarked, “Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.”

One could make the case that walking is a philosophical exercise or a way of learning to live in flow with life.
